A heavy rain alert is now in force for Fiji.

A trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain is approaching the group from the west and is expected to affect Fiji from Friday.

The Nadi Weather Office says there is risk of flash flooding of low lying and flood-prone areas during persistent localised heavy falls, lightning strikes during thunderstorms, flooding of small rivers, creeks and crossings and landslides with continuous rainfall over a prolonged duration.
