Heated argument between Sugar Minister and Ba resident during FMA Town Hall session

Heated argument between Sugar Minister and Ba resident during FMA Town Hall session

A heated argument broke out between Minister for Sugar Industry, Charan Jeath Singh and sugarcane farmer Arvind Singh tonight during the Fijian Media Association Meet the Public and the Press session in Ba.

Arvind Singh requested Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to direct the Sugar Industry Minister to meet with growers instead of holding pocket meetings.

He says the sugar industry is dying, no one is taking it seriously, and stressed that they are the last generation in the industry.

In response, Minister Singh said he had never seen Arvind Singh at any of the meetings.

The Minister further said that the only reason Singh is complaining is because he was not reappointed to the Fiji Sugar Corporation Board due to non-performance.

Both were reminded to continue their discussion later as the argument escalated.
