Healthy foods should be made cheaper than junk foods to attract more consumption of it.
This is the sentiment of Consumer Council of Fiji CEO Premila Kumar at the Consultation on Healthier Food and Non-Alcoholic Drinks Program.
Kumar said with the prices of healthy foods being high, people tend to purchase what is more cheap and accessible.
Kumar added for instance, the prices of some healthy rice are so high in comparison to starchy rice having low costs.
Also the costs of soft drinks are higher than bottled water.
So in such situations consumers tend to buy cheaper products even though they pose a threat to their health.
