The Ministry of Health has sent out an alert advising the public not to purchase or use skin whitening cosmetic products labelled as Goree Beauty Cream (with Lycopene), Goree Day & Night Beauty Cream (Oil Free) and Golden Pearl Beauty Cream.

The Ministry says the alert was issued by the New Zealand Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Authority stating that the product was found to contain high levels of mercury and lead and it is currently being sold in Fiji and may also be bought online.

They say while the alert issued was sent out in December 2021, Medsafe confirms it is to be treated as current.

The Ministry says the public is warned not to use these products as they can be toxic and cause complications, especially for unborn babies.
