The Commerce Commission has raised concerns that despite being given ample time, some hardware outlets in the Central division were complacent which forced them to order two outlets to close their business this morning.
These two outlets cannot resume their business until they enter the new price for hardware items into their computer systems and display the new prices for customers.
Commission Chairman, Dr. Mahendra Reddy confirmed one hardware shop is located in Suva and the other in Nausori who are now adjusting their prices according to the price control order.
We spoke to a Manager of Suncourt Hardware who confirmed that they were forced to close today but they have managed to update their computer systems and will open for business on Monday.
Twelve teams from the Commerce Commission are undertaking the inspection of all hardware shops around the country to ensure they are complying with the new price control order for hardware items.
Dr. Reddy said other hardware shops had complied with the new price order.
Customers have been advised not to follow the marked prices on the items and rather ask for assistance to get new reduced prices from their computers.
Fijivillage visited a number of hardware outlets in Suva this morning and none of the hardware shops had put up the list new of hardware prices as required by the Commission.
Prices of selected hardware items are expected to decrease as much as 35 percent and the products that will see a price reduction from today consists of paint, electrical products, plumbing equipment, roofing, concrete blocks, sand, gravel, tiles, timber, nails, nuts and bolts.
