HK 7s: Fiji claims 4th place after 22-21 loss to Australia

The Fiji Airways National Men’s 7s side finished 4th in the HSBC Hong Kong 7s after being edged 22-21 by Australia in the 3rd place play-off last night.

Sakiusa Siqila, Filipe Sauturaga and try scoring machine Joji Nasova crossed over for Fiji with conversions from Siqila and Nasova.

Fiji had a couple of disciplinary issues as they were leaking penalties and Joseva Talacolo receiving a yellow card in the first half.

The Australians turned the Fijian defence inside out with darting runs up the middle before passing out wide and beating them on the wing.

Fiji does not have the speed to compete with these teams and the only fast player that we have in Vuiviwa Naduvalo was subbed on with only seconds left to play.

Coach Osea Kolinisau will have a lot to work on if he still wants to win the series with the Singapore 7s this weekend.

Meanwhile, Argentina won the Hong Kong 7s men’s title after edging Olympic champions France 12-7 and New Zealand took out the women’s title after beating Australia 26-19 in the cup final last night.
