A workshop on how Fiji can reduce Green House Gas emissions and help in keeping the global temperature at 1.5 degrees Celsius is currently underway in Suva today.

The Pacific Maritime Technical Officers Workshop has been organized by PIDF, supported by the Fijian government and University of the South Pacific.

Participants from the Maritime Safety Authority, UNDP, SPC and representatives from Solomon and Marshall Islands, Tonga ,Kiribati, Tuvalu and Vanuatu will be part of the 3 day workshop at Tanoa Plaza.

Assistant Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Vijay Nath says the adoption of an initial strategy on Green House Gas emissions reduction will take place in April.

Nath says as COP President, Fiji is all too aware of how critical it is for all sectors to play their part in keeping global temperature rise to no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.

He says the participants of the workshop are expected to make formal contributions on technical papers that could be further discussed for adoption at the International Maritime Organization in April.
