Govt yet to decide on when Supervisor of Elections will be appointed
The government is yet to decide on when the Supervisor of Elections will be appointed.

Voter registration is expected to start in a month’s time and the Ministry of Justice is now carrying out the recruitment of 1,050 voter registration clerks.

In an interview with Fijivillage, Attorney General and Minister for Elections, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the government will decide in due course to appoint the next Elections Supervisor.

But he then questioned why this question is being raised as there were anomalies in the 2006 elections when an Electoral Commission and a Supervisor of Elections were in place.

Former Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase has called for the appointment of a Supervisor of Elections and he has suggested that the appointment of the voter registration clerks should be done by the Supervisor. He says this will be an independent process.
