The government is now working on a plan to disburse money to every school in the country and will then be given to the students for bus fares, starting from Tuesday afternoon, so that come Wednesday, the Free Bus Fare Program starts off.
However, to receive this money, all schools have to submit their school rolls which have students names who travel by bus every day, to the Education Ministry.
Transport Ministry spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete confirmed this saying all school heads will have to submit their list first in order to receive the money.
She said it is up to the school how to disburse the cash to the students on a day to day basis or every week, and they have to sign a form for accountability and transparency's sake confirming that they did receive their bus fare.
Meanwhile, Senior Education Officer Suva Peter Cavakilagi is asking school heads to take time during their long weekend to deliver the school roll of their students who travel to school by bus, either today, tomorrow or first thing Monday morning to the Primary Headquarters Quality House.
He added those who have given their school rolls are to pick up their cheques on Tuesday morning from the Suva Education Office.
