Govt to provide free milk and Weetbix for Year One students from today

The free milk initiative for Year One students will now include free breakfast cereal.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama made this announcement while launching the initiative at Nakelo District School in Tailevu.

The Prime Minister earlier said that they cannot afford short cuts in terms of the quality of the milk, its packaging or its distribution.

Bainimarama said the packets have a shelf life of six months to ensure that schools can get their supplies in bulk.

The free milk program received an allocation of $3.5 million in the 2015 budget, whereby each student in Year One will be provided 250ml of milk per day.

20,010 Year One students are expected to benefit from this.
