Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate says revenue collected by government through taxes and duties has declined by half, however government is still maintaining the amount of money it gives to people to sustain their lives.

He says this is due to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the Fiji Building Designers Association Workshop at the Holiday Inn, Usamate says this means that there is less money available to be able to do development works that the country needs.

He also told business owners that by providing employment, they will be able to help the economy.

He adds government had to get FNPF to provide members their funds to ensure they have money to look after their family.

The Minister says the challenge now is to get the economy back on track.
