Govt hopes to prevent any further coups
The government is hoping that with the military having a closer connection with an elected Prime Minister, it will take away any misunderstanding and could also prevent any further coups.

The draft constitution states that the Prime Minister will also be the Commander-in-Chief of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

In an earlier interview with Fijivillage on the draft, Sayed-Khaiyum said while no one can guarantee that there will be no more coups in the country, every effort has been made to ensure that the right systems and mechanisms are in place to prevent future coups.

Sayed-Khaiyum said every step is being taken to ensure that there is good connectivity between the elected government and the RFMF.
