Govt extends telephone registration deadline

The government has extended the deadline for registration of land line and mobile phones for another 30 days under the Telephone Services decree.

The registration period ended yesterday, however, Attorney General and Minister for Communication Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum confirmed that following a request from mobile phone operators Vodafone and Digicel, they have decided to extend the registration period until September 22nd.

Sayed-Khaiyum said there will be no further extensions when the current deadline ends in 30 days.

Vodafone Fiji's Manager Corporate Affairs Shailendra Prasad said their teams are already in the islands to register their customers and they are confident all customers will be registered within the next 30 days.

Digicel and Telecom Fiji are yet to comment on the matter.
