Government is concerned about some supermarkets taking food items off their shelves which are under the price control during the weekend.
In a press conference held this afternoon, Commerce Minister and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the Commerce Commission has given Retailers and Wholesalers uptil Tuesday to come up with their submissions.
He added if need arises prices determinations will be made by Thursday.
Sayed-Khaiyum has raised concerned than Commerce Commission hardly received any submissions from retailers.
He stressed that it should be noted that list of price control items has decreased.
He said government has put in numerous incentives for low income earners and putting some basic food items under price control is one of them.
Sayed-Khaiyum added government has not put price control on locally manufactured goods as they are not trying to suffocate the local business.
