Government declares a State of Natural Disaster in parts of Fiji after effects of Severe TC Harold

The Fijian Government has declared a State of Natural Disaster in parts of Fiji after the effects of Severe Tropical Cyclone Harold.

These areas include Kadavu, Southern Lau, Tailevu North, Korovou, Nausori, Nakasi, Beqa, Yanuca, Nadarivatu, Vatulele, the Mamanuca Group, the Yasawa Group, coastal communities in the Coral Coast and along the Sigatoka River in the Nadroga/ Navosa Province.

This has been highlighted by the Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate who says that this is to exercise the powers conferred on the Cabinet by section 17 of the Natural Disaster Management Act 1998.

Usamate says the State of National Disaster will be effective for the next 30 days.
