Gender equity should be the norm in our society – femLink Pacific
Executive Director for femLink Pacific Fiji Fay Volatabu

The issue of gender diversity should be the talk in every platform and not only on paper but should become a reality practiced in our society.

Speaking at the regional conference on Gender Responsive Climate Policy and Environmental Governance, Executive Director for femLink Pacific Fiji, Fay Volatabu says we need to ensure that there is gender equity for fairness and strategies to address women's historical and social disadvantages.

Volatabu says gender equity ensures that imbalance does not exist.

She says there are some regional and international organisations who are trying to achieve gender equity and they have been empowered to ensure that women are part of the decision-making in public and private events.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Acting Director for Climate Change Division, Filimone Ralogaivau, says the Ministry of Finance also has a budget known as gender-responsive budgeting that focuses on every ministry that has a gender gap crisis.

Ralogaivau says this is something new and implementation wise, there is still a long way to go.
