A gale warning remains in force for Rotuma as the tropical depression was located at about 290 kilometres north of Rotuma at about 3 this morning.
The Nadi Weather Office says close to the centre of the depression the winds are expected to have average winds of upto 55 kilometres per hour with momentary gusts upto 80 kilometres per hour.
The depression is moving East Southeast at about 10 kilometres per hour and is expected to pass to the west of Rotuma in the next 12 to 24 hours.
The weather office says the depression is expected to bring damaging gale force winds over Rotuma.
