The Grand Pacific Hotel was lit in the colours of Pride during the International Day of Transgender Visibility event at the hotel to celebrate the accomplishments of transgender and gender nonconforming people while raising awareness of the work that still needs to be done to achieve trans justice.

The rainbow flag is a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer pride and LGBT social movements.

Hotel Area General Manager, Lachlan Walker says IHG Hotels and Resorts celebrates everyone, recognizing equality and greater visibility and they are proud to be the one of the leading hospitality brands in Fiji to display the pride flag which shows their commitment to diversity and inclusion.

He says their purpose at the hotel is to provide true hospitality for everyone and everyone means everyone.

UN Human Rights Regional Representative Heike Alefsen says it is important for businesses and all individuals to show support that broadens acceptance and observance of all the human rights of trans and gender diverse persons.

He says the world needs more of solidarity when it comes to marginalized groups.
