GCC members hope for a review of the 2013 Constitution

The Great Council of Chiefs hopes that the 2013 Constitution will be reviewed after the Solicitor General updated the members in today’s meeting that removing laws will take time.

GCC Chair Ratu Viliame Seruvakula says that, ultimately, the Solicitor General answered many of the members' questions regarding the various laws that are in place through the 2013 constitution.

He says people need to have patience.

The Chair also highlighted that 33 laws in the Constitution impact the iTaukei, where 16 of these have been updated, and the rest are still being reviewed.

Speaking on the meeting today, Ratu Viliame says the members met within their own confederacies and discussed two papers, which are the review of the iTaukei Administration and the economic empowerment paper.

He says they all agreed and supported the recommendations by the Committee, and there were also some concerns raised along that which the Secretariat has noted.
