A full bench of the High Court of Australia is set to hear an appeal by Solomon Islands’ former Attorney General, Julian Moti this week in Canberra.
As well as considering the overturned verdict that excessive payments to witnesses “brought the administration of justice into disrepute” the court will also consider whether Australian authorities “connived and colluded” in the illegal deportation of Moti from the Solomon Islands in 2007.
Radio Australia said the Australian High Court will also hear Moti’s appeal against the court’s decision for him to be prosecuted for child sex crimes.
Julian Moti was born in Fiji and is an Australian citizen.
He is accused of sexually assaulting a 13 year old girl in Noumea and Vanuatu during the 1990s.
The case against him collapsed in 2009 when a Supreme Court judge ordered a permanent stay on the proceedings because of the methods used by the Australian Federal Police.
But that decision was overturned by the Queensland Court of Appeal last year.
Moti is now appealing against the Court of Appeal decision in the Australian High Court.
