A 31-year-old former military officer has been sentenced to six months imprisonment after pleading guilty to the charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.
Serupepeli Dalikadina assaulted his girlfriend by holding her neck and punching her forehead on 16th December last year.
Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne stated that Dalikadina had previously assaulted his girlfriend and had received a suspended sentence however within three months he had unleashed violence on the victim again.
He adds a custodial sentence is merited this time to deter Dalikadina from reoffending and to protect the victim in the future.
Magistrate Somaratne has also ordered a permanent domestic violence restraining order against Dalikadina.
