Former civil servant pleads guilty to charges of general dishonesty and obtaining a gain

A former civil servant charged with one count of abuse of office and one count of general dishonesty obtaining a gain pleaded guilty to his charges this morning.

Shanon Shahil Chand had earlier pleaded not guilty to his charges and his trial was supposed to start this morning, however, he changed his plea today.

Chand while being employed as a technician at the Information Unit at the Judicial Department allegedly abused the authority and did an arbitrary act for gain.

Chand allegedly used the Vodafone subsidy given for official purposes to acquire Samsung mobile phones for the purpose of his personal gain which are acts prejudicial to the rights of the Judicial Department.
