A former Principal of Ra High School and the Assistant Teacher of Agriculture charged with alleged financial misconduct appeared in the Rakiraki Magistrates Court this morning.

FICAC charged Sanmogan Naidu with two counts of obtaining a financial advantage, and jointly charged Semi Nabalarua, with an additional count of obtaining a financial advantage.

It is alleged that between 1st July 2020 and 31st July 2020, while serving as Principal of Ra High School, Naidu obtained a financial advantage of $4,000 by instructing the preparation of payment vouchers from the school’s Free Education Grant account, despite knowing he was not entitled to receive those funds.

It is also alleged that between 1st June 2019 and 31st October 2020, Naidu and Nabalarua jointly obtained $12,484.25 by preparing payment vouchers and cashing cheques from the Vocational Grant account of Ra High School, knowing they were not entitled to receive the funds.

State Counsel Ravinesh Lal informed the court that the first phase of disclosures has been served.

Resident Magistrate Timoci Qalinauci granted non-cash bail of $500 each and the conditions include that the accused must not re-offend while on bail, must not interfere with prosecution witnesses, and must not change their residential addresses without informing the court.

The matter has been adjourned to 1st October 2025.
