Former CWM Revenue Collector sentenced to 18 months imprisonment

A former Colonial War Memorial Hospital Revenue Collector has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment in the Suva Magistrates Court.

Ravnesh Sagar was charged last July with one count each of Falsification of Documents and General Dishonesty – Obtaining a Gain by FICAC.

He pleaded guilty to the offences and admitted to falsifying the original and copy of a receipt belonging to his former employers to obtain $196.20FJD between December 2018 and January 2019.

While delivering his sentence, Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa acknowledged that Sagar admitted to the offences and cooperated with FICAC.

Boseiwaqa said there was a serious breach of trust whilst being employed in the public service and that such breaches required immediate custodial sentences as a deterrent.
