Flying Fijians still have a chance to make RWC Quarters

The Vodafone Flying Fijians still have a chance to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Rugby World Cup if they have bonus point victories against Wales and Uruguay, and hope other results go their way.

Let’s look at the scenario in the pool of death that may still give a chance for Fiji to make it to the last eight in the tournament:

Fiji wins with maximum points against Wales next Friday and against Uruguay on the 7th of next month.

They would have a total of 10 points.

Fiji would then hope that England beat Wales, Australia and Uruguay. England will top the pool table with four wins.

Wales has to beat Australia but without a bonus point.

They would end up with 9 points as they already have 5 points after beating Uruguay.

They should also not get a bonus point in their match against England.

For Fiji to still have a chance based on this scenario, the Wallabies should lose to England and Wales and not record any bonus points in those matches.

The Wallabies are highly likely to beat Uruguay. They then end up with 9 points.

Based on this, England and Fiji would progress to the quarter finals.

The Flying Fijians are now regrouping after their 28-13 loss to the Wallabies, and setting their focus on the Wales match next week.

Vodafone Flying Fijians coach John McKee says they came in with higher ambitions in this morning’s match but the Wallabies capitalized on Fiji’s errors.

McKee says Fiji played well in the second half.

McKee adds that they will now focus on Wales.

Meanwhile Captain Akapusi Qera says that they will utilize the eight days well to prepare for Wales.

Fiji will play Wales at 3.45am next Friday at Millennium Stadium.
