Floodwaters recede in Western Division

Floodwaters in the Western Division, including Nadi and Rakiraki have receded, however, evacuation centres remain open.

Restrictions on movement in Nadi Town has also been lifted.

This has been confirmed by the Western Division Command Centre.

They say rain has stopped and water level in flood prone areas of Utelei Settlement, Korovuto, Nawaka and Nadi Bus Stand have receded.

Nadi Back Road, Namotomoto end and Temple end is also accessible to all traffic.

In Rakiraki Nadonumai Crossing, Namonamo Road, Tova Crossing, Mataso Tova Road, Gallau Road, and FSC Road are also open now.

Nadi businessman Mohammed Khan says floodwaters have caused some damage to some shops.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Khan says there was about three feet of water on the town's main street.

He adds that the flash flooding caught some business owners off guard, which left them unable to prepare properly.

Khan says some shops have unfortunately sustained damage, but the full extent will only be known after proper assessment.
