Flooding in Nausori Town

Minister for Disaster Risk Management Sakiasi Ditoka says they are relying on their Early Warning Systems in the rivers and unfortunately for Nausori Town, the flooding there was caused by bad drainage.

He says they currently have six Early Warning Systems in the Central Division and a few more in Ba.

When asked if NDRMO and the Ministry of Waterways are working together to mitigate places that are always getting flooded like Qauia, Ditoka says they are at the very end part of the whole process.

Ditoka says they work with the Ministry of Waterways and FRA in coordinating their efforts and highlighting to them the places that need to be focused on.

When questioned by fijivillage News on who is responsible for the areas along the Queens Highway that always get flooded like Vunaniu, Naboutini and Nabukelevu, Ditoka says they spoke to a FRA representative who says they are working on that right now and also in the immediate future to fix that problem.

Ditoka adds they are very thankful to the Ministry of Education for making all their schools available to the National Disaster Response Management Office to use as Evacuation Centres if the need arises.
