Fiji’s only domestic carrier, Pacific Sun says most of their flight cancellations are due to weather conditions.
While reacting to questions raised by Fijivillage on the reason for the flight delays and cancellations, Pacific Sun’s General Manager Shaenaz Voss said the Twin Otter aircraft were unable to fly in bad weather and flights had to be cancelled.
People have been contacting us over the past few months due to the cancellations experienced for the Suva to Nadi flights, and other flights to Savusavu, Labasa and Taveuni.
Some said they only find out about the delays and cancellations when they reach the airport.
Voss said their plan is to improve in this area.
Meanwhile Pacific Sun’s Twin Otter aircraft can now provide services during bad weather.
Voss said the Twin Otters have been properly equipped with weather radars and GPS’s which will now allow domestic flights to be on schedule despite bad weather.
Voss added that with the $300,000 upgrade the aircraft are more reliable for its customers.
This also means that Pacific Sun will now operate two flights daily into Savusavu from either Nadi or Suva, twice a day flights from Nadi to Taveuni and a daily Nadi to Kadavu flight.
