Fisherman sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for raping step-daughter

A 35-year-old fisherman has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter.

The case was called before High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar via Skype from Labasa High Court.

The incident happened in February last year when the man took the girl and her siblings to a river for swimming.

The girl told her mother about the incident who then reported the matter to police.

A non-parole period of eight years has been set.
