The first ever bilateral talks between Fiji’s Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama and Australia’s Foreign Minister Julie Bishop since December 2006 has just finished.
We are currently awaiting Commodore Bainimarama’s statement after the meeting.
Bishop, who is part of the visiting Pacific Islands Forum Ministerial Contact Group, is expected to comment after having meetings later this evening and tomorrow.
However, she made it clear before going into the meeting that it is time to embrace Fiji.
Bishop said in a Pacific Beat interview that she will not impose any conditions on the Fijian government when discussions take place with Commodore Bainimarama.
Bishop said travel sanctions are also being reviewed.
The Forum Ministerial Contact Group will meet with Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum later this afternoon.
This evening they will be in an official function at Borron House.
They meet representatives of the political parties tomorrow.
