A group of Fijian abattoir workers who came to the aid of several people impacted by flooding in South East Queensland earlier this year were recognized for the efforts in Brisbane last night.

Australian Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Zed Seselja met the Fijian workers during the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua and the Brumbies match and thanked them for the heroics.

He acknowledged the Fijian workers from Lismore for their selfless acts of kindness and bravery who rescued aged care residents during the floods.

The group of Fijian workers helped rescue about 60 residents at a Lismore nursing home in February.

The entire township of Lismore on the far north coast of New South Wales was evacuated.
