The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua have been demolished 67-5 by the Hurricanes in the Super Rugby Pacific this afternoon.

The Drua players lacked focus and were poor in defence.

They also conceded too many penalties and mistakes throughout the match and that allowed the Hurricanes to score 11 tries.

The Hurricanes led 26-0 at half time.

The only try for the Drua came during the 66th minute from Onisi Ratave.

Match Report

It is an absolute hiding in the Cake Tin, with the Canes running in a whopping eleven tries to one to put on a real statement after a disappointing defeat last week. Aidan Morgan ran the show, though will feel he left a few points out on the park off the tee. All in all though, it was an impressive outing for the home side.

Full-Time: 67-5

80+4' The Drua go to a maul, but the Canes defended well forcing them to peel into midfield. Nawai eventually had a cross-kick back to the left edge, but it beat everyone into touch! An easy win for the Canes.

80+3' It is fairly ugly for the Drua as they send play 20m backwards! They did find a penalty advantage though, with the Canes going off their feet at the breakdown. Muntz pins to touch on the attacking 10m line.

80+2' HIGGINS GOES TO THE NAUGHTY BOYS CHAIR ON DEBUT! Morgan looked to have a run up the left, but he had it turned over with a loose pass. It became messy though, before the Canes won a penalty! Higgins made a very late tip tackle though, being shown the yellow by referee Doleman! Drua with a last chance to grab a consolation.

80' Sangster takes in the restart, setting into a maul. They worked out the back but it was all very messy, as Morgan toed it down the right edge. Taliga worked it up the left over halfway, but he was taken into touch! The Canes went quick to work across field, but it was with the wrong ball, so we will go back for the lineout.

79' Morgan just leaves it wide of the right upright.

78' SANGSTER BAGS HIS FIRST SUPER RUGBY TRY! Howden went on a run out the boot, charging into the 22. The Canes worked quick hands right to take play 15m away, before going back inside with Roigard going on a dart! He was chopped just short, but the big lock recycled to dive over in the right corner.

77' It's a bit of hot potato for the Drua, looking to find some room to manoeuvre back of their own 10m line. They were forced right back to the edge of their own 22, where a big hit saw the Drua spill for Mafileo! He couldn't quite link up though, with Kirifi spilling at the ankles. Canes scrum just outside the 22.

76' Delaney comes right across to pinch with two hands, allowing the Canes to exit. Roigard did it from the base, hooking into touch past halfway with the Drua going quickly!

75' Coles goes straight off his feet at the breakdown, so the Drua get an easy march up towards the corner. Muntz's kick was not the best into the wind, but luckily for him it bounced over the sideline for a 10m lineout.

74' Not Roigard's best bit of work, thumping his clearing kick out on the full! Drua lineout just short of their own 10m line.

73' Morgan drills it over from 5m right of the sticks.

72' THAT IS THE DEFINITION OF A SEED! Roigard bounced out the back of the scrum, firing a cutout ball past three of his own men, finding Moorby running unmarked up the right touch to score in the corner.

70' A bit of ill-discipline off the scrum for the Drua, creeping up offside. The Canes looked to throw it around before a spillage up the left. They call for a scrum 10m out from the line on the left edge.

69' Ratave is rocking and rolling now, taking the restart and having a run down the left flank! He took play nicely out of the 22 before finding support on the inside, but it was spilt in the ruck as the Canes countered. They looked to spread right with big numbers, but a poor pass by Garden-Bachop set up for an intercept, but Ratave couldn't hold on in midfield! Canes scrum 25m out from the line.

68' Muntz strikes the right upright from 10m right of the posts!

67' HE IS ELECTRIC! The Drua pushed well in the scrum, finding an advantage! Nawai chucked it left then right, finding Ratave out the back. He stepped inside Sullivan before fending off Garden-Bachop to cross down the right edge.

66' Here's the Drua's chance! The Canes bounced out left for Garden-Bachop for an exit, but he had it well charged by Ikanivere! In the end he did well though, sliding on it to save face, though he forced over his own goal-line to concede a 5m scrum.

65' Minimbi races through to take the kickoff, charging into contact on the 22! The Canes muscled up in the contact zone though, forcing the Drua back to the 10m line before Taliga roamed the short-side. Ratave then had a go, settling play on the 22m line before the Canes turned over!

63' PROCTER NABS A DOUBLE! This is just punishing from the Canes! The forwards banged to the line off the lineout, keeping tight as play headed towards the posts. Eventually they found an advantage, working out the back with two free men on the outside as Morgan bounced it into the hands of Procter who dove over in the left corner.

61' Roigard drives out the scrum, flying into the 22 up the right! He took it 10m away before he was chopped down, with the Drua pinged for kicking the ball out the ruck. To the corner go the Canes.

60' Morgan clears downtown with an exit, forcing the Drua to build from their own 10m line. They lacked the link play, being forced back towards their own 22 before Taliga forced an offload. It was down at the ankles though, as they knocked on. Hurricanes scrum 35m out from the line.

58' IT'S A DARK DAY FOR THE DRUA! The Canes bounced off the top, working out to the left flank with a good out the back play for Morgan. He spread it to Rayasi, who had room to burn down the left flank! He toyed with the defenders before putting down the foot, fending off one to score in the left corner!

57' Good shove from the Canes at the scrum, but Nawai does well to scrap it away. The Drua held for a few phases before Cirikidaveta pushed an offload that was not on! The Canes collected, looking to grubber but it was charged into touch just back of the 10m line.

55' A rare mistake from the Canes, as Aumua runs straight into Gibson for an accidental offside. Drua scrum just back of halfway.

55' A rare mistake from the Canes, as Aumua runs straight into Gibson for an accidental offside. Drua scrum just back of halfway.

54' Sullivan claims a short restart, with Perenara kicking out the hand from first receiver. It was long down into the 22 as he looked for a 50/22, but Taliga mopped it well, working a clever chip and chase to regather possession on the 10m line! They failed to hold it for long though, with the Canes somehow turning over loose possession on halfway.

52' ANOTHER ONE FOR THE CANES! The lineout was overthrown by a mile, as Perenara spread it into midfield for the Hurricanes to make a good bust into the 22. They quickly bounced it back left, with Laubscher drawing the defence before finding Walker-Leawere off his shoulder! The big lock ran a perfect line, flying 15m to crash over down the left edge!

46' Big scrum from the Canes, and they find an advantage! Moorby works a good wrap play for Goosen to hit contact past the 10m line, before the play was switched to the left. Morgan then injected, hitting Labuscher on a wonderful line! He strode up the middle before linking Perenara into the 22, but he couldn't find any support. The Drua scrambled well, with Derenalagi getting over the ball to win a turnover penalty.

45' The first scrum of the half goes straight to ground. We will reset it.

44' Taliga's restart is no good! Out on the full, and it is fair to say Mick Byrne is less than impressed...

42' SLICK! It was the same lineout move with Perenara cutting it for Sullivan in midfield. He hit the line hard, but went out the back for Morgan this time, who had space to burn as the defenders tracked Moorby! A simple draw-in pass later and Goosen was over in the corner!

41' Taliga uses the wind well at the restart, allowing the Drua to retain a short one! They gave it away a the second ruck though, with Rayasi leading a counter through the middle. The Canes were able to quickly bounce it into midfield, driving up the middle before they won a penalty at the ruck. Morgan finds touch 15m from the line.

The Drua just haven't shown up at all. A lack of accuracy in possession has seen them barely touch the ball in the Hurricanes half despite having the wind at their backs, as they consistently either coughed up possession, or failed to organise themselves in a way they could exploit the home side. It has been a disappointing day at the office for Caleb Muntz who would have hoped to have shown why he deserves an extended run at first five. He needs to lift if the Drua are any chance of mounting a comeback.

It has been a Mother's Day gift an a half to Hurricane supporting mothers, as the men from the capital have turned on the attacking style. Josh Moorby and Aidan Morgan have been impressive in injecting themselves, causing all sorts of chaos for the Drua. On the back of a solid effort from the pack, the pair have been able to find or provide good running lines, with Sullivan and Procter also proving too hot to handle in the midfield. Salesi Rayasi is another to have wreaked havoc, jinking and weaving his way down the left on several occasions. They look set for a big win.

Half-Time: 26-0

40' It is side to side with little go forwards for the Drua, with Taliga eventually looking to a chip and chase. He slid it through, but it was too heavy as Procter saw it over the sideline for halftime!

39' Perenara gets a stern warning! The Canes looked to a maul, but it went straight to ground for a Drua turnover scrum. Perenara spoke with Doleman though, being pinged for dissent! Muntz finds touch on halfway.

38' It's a messy transfer off the lineout for the Drua, but they do well to keep hold of the ball. They worked flat across the park, but Muntz was isolated as he ran across field, with Vota going straight off his feet in a desperate effort. Morgan drills it into touch 30m from the line.

37' Vota taps and gaps into contact, charging towards halfway. The support arrived quickly as the Drua found another penalty in midfield. Muntz drills to touch 40m from the line.

36' It is messy to the right edge for the Canes, but it finds the magic man in Moorby who busts his way towards the 22! He linked back inside, but it was messy out the back, leading to messy possession for both sides. In the end, the Canes infringed by driving through the side of the ruck.

35' This is going all sorts of wrong for the Drua! Muntz puts the restart out on the full, giving the Canes a halfway scrum.

34' Morgan converts nicely from 10m left of the sticks.

33' TOO EASY! The Canes bounced it across the lands, going through the hands with Sullivan receiving just on the outside channel in midfield. He found Moorby one further wide, who had the beating of his man to fly over down the left edge!

32' After a decent stoppage for a few injuries, Morgan drills it for a lineout 15m from the line.

31' This is relentless! Rayasi claimed the kickoff, shimmying nicely to slide straight through the Drua defence! He burned his man on the outside as he made it over halfway, just being ankle-tapped! The recycle came though, with the Canes working across to midfield as their momentum slowed. They made it to double-digit phases though, finding an advantage as Dernalagi went off his feet.

Drilled over from the left corner.

28' NO LET-OFF THIS TIME! It was a simple case of players in motion for the Canes, working quickly to the left off the kickoff. Morgan was out the back to get hammered, firing left for Rayasi. He hit a hole, gliding into the backfield with numbers left! He held it up well, finding Procter for a 22m stroll into the left corner.

27' LET-OFF FOR THE DRUA! The Canes somehow won the hook, quickly freeing it out right before the Canes could get set. Sullivan beat his man on the outside, busting another as he looked bound for the chalk! He worked back on the inside for Procter, but it was at the ankles as he inadvertently hoofed it head! 22 restart for the Drua.

26' The Canes mean business! It was another good set of slight hands in midfield, freeing Sullivan for a half bust into the 22. It became a touch scrappy but they switched out to the left, linking it well before Goosen spilt on the edge. A let off for the Drua with a scrum 10m out from their own line.

24' Numia makes ammends! The Drua just about retained possession off the lineout, but Nawai was always under pressure. Muntz straightened it up on halfway, but Numia was on him like a flash to win a turnover penalty.

23' Good scrum from the Drua, finding them a platform to work into midfield as Numia collapsed the scrum. They couldn't do a lot with the ball though, as it was eventually knocked on. Muntz clears long to touch, about 30m from the chalk.

21' Sangster brings in the restart, taking it midway between the 10m line and 22m line. The Canes went out the back for a Morgan bomb, with it falling into space! Mataiciwa charged it into contact, but he had it stripped! The home side bounced out left for Morgan before the forwards started to bust, just spilling as they threatened past the 10m line. Drua to feed a scrum.

Morgan hooks it out to the left from the right corner.

19' THE CANES ARE IN AGAIN! Procter ran a wonderful line off the lineout, hitting it up over the advantage line as he took contact 10m away. Morgan then injected, hitting Moorby on the angle as he found his way behind the defence! He took play into the 22 before finding Rayasi, who was well chopped 5m out. The forwards arrived in droves though, banging at the line under an advantage for offside. Eventually they shifted it out to the right edge, with Aumua stepping inside one to barge over in the corner.

18' Salawa straightens it past the 10m line, before the Drua quickly looked to go out the back. They shifted left, but Vota was isolated as Perenara got over the ball to win a turnover penalty! Rayasi hooks it over the right touchline, just ahead of the 10m line.

17' Rayasi takes in the restart, settling play inside the 22. Perenara through a hospital pass to Morgan in the pocket, but the young ten did well to scoop it up on the bounce, before clearin up to the 10m line.

Morgan drills it over from in front.

14' MOORBY HAS THE FIRST TRY OF THE AFTERNOON! Perenara played playmaker off the lineout, receiving from Gibson who sat in the halfback position. He fired into midfield for Sullivan who floated it up off his shoulder for Moorby on the charge! Into the 22, he split a tackle, flying in beside the uprights!

13' Again it is flat off the lineout for the Drua, working aside to side for Cirikidaveta on the right. He was too upright though, as Sullivan wrapped him up before support arrived to drive him over the sideline. The Canes have gone quick!

11' Penalty Drua! Lomax slipped straight to ground on the tighthead side, collapsing to the ground. Taliga pins it into touch just ahead of halfway.

10'  The first scrum of the day goes straight to ground. We will reset.

9' The Drua work flat off a halfway lineout, just struggling in their link play initially. It became a game of hot potato as the Drua were forced backwards with their own loose passing, as Ravutaumada was forced back towards his own 22! In the end a knock-on at the ruck gives the Canes a scrum 30m out from the line.

7' It is scrappy for the Drua, and eventually Kuruvoli looked to clear but he was tackled meaning all the distance went out of it, barely going past the 10m line! The Canes looked to spread it under an advantage, but it did not come to much as James Doleman blew it up for a penalty. It ended up getting reversed though, as Walker-Leawere actually caught Kuruvoli in a seatbelt tackle.

1651983824684[Joshua Moorby scores the first of his two first-half tries against a disappointing Fijian Drua at Wellington’s Sky Stadium.]

6' Another crucial bit of defending! The Canes continued to hammer away, looking fairly ominous as they made their way into the 22, but Salawa got in over the ball to win a relieving penalty. Pinned to touch 30m off the Drua line.

5' Cirikidaveta busts well to get the ball well clear of the 22, but a loose ball out the back closed the options for Taliga who looked for a chip over the top. Moorby mopped it well though, taking play past the 10m line before the Canes looked left! Morgan bust the line, linking nicely for Aumua to make his way into the 22.

4' Walker-Leawere takes the lineout down for a maul, but the Drua defended well to see it to deck. Aumua peeled away off the shoulder, but there was no way through the line! Eventually Derenalagi pounced, getting in over the ball to win the turnover penalty! Muntz pins it to touch just outside the 22.

2' The Drua muscle up well enough, forcing the Canes back another 5m. Up to 13 phases the Canes finally found an advantage for not rolling, but there was no way through a Fijian brick wall as Rayasi eventually spilt. Morgan drives it into touch for a 5m lineout.

1' Morgan goes long into the wind, and it holds up just outside the 22 for Procter to claim! The Canes charged into the 22 with good momentum, working 10m out through Aumua before Procter got involved again down the left. Rayasi went short side to get to the 5m line, before Morgan resettled play in midfield.

The two sides are out on the park, and we are just about set to get cracking. James Doleman is our referee.
