Fiji women’s 7s team win first match against USA

The Fiji women’s 7s team has made a winning start at the 2016 Rio Olympics women’s sevens competition beating United States of America 12‑7 early this morning.

Fiji scored two tries in the match through Timaima Ravisa and Luisa Tisolo.

USA only scored one try in the match.

Akalaini Baravilala who has links to Fiji played for USA this morning.

The Fijiana were bold in defence and this helped them continue their 7‑0 lead at halftime to claim the win at Deodoro Stadium.

Meanwhile, Fiji’s pool opponents Australia and Colombia also played this morning.

Australian won the match thrashing Colombia 53‑0.

The Fijiana 7s team will play Australia in their second pool match at 9.30 this morning and then take on Colombia at 4am tomorrow.

In other results of the first round of pool matches at the women’s 7s competition, France beat Spain 24‑7, New Zealand thrashed Kenya 52‑0, Great Britain defeated Brazil 29‑3, Canada hammered Japan 45‑0.

The second round of pool matches are now underway and France has beaten Kenya while New Zealand defeated Spain 31‑5.
