The Digicel Fiji 7s team has now booked a semifinal berth against England at 7:49 tonight after beating Argentina 26-5 in the Cup quarterfinals of the Hong Kong 7s.
Fiji made a slow start to the game before Nikola Matawalu scored the first try.
Argentina replied with a converted try to lead 7- 5 after there were some misunderstanding in Fiji’s defense before Sikeli Vuruna made a break before offloading to Joeli Lutumailagi who touched down for the national side on the stroke of halftime.
Fiji had three more scoring opportunities but poor decision making and execution let them down.
Waisea Nayacalevu scored another try for Fiji before Metuisela Talebula ran in for the fourth try and becomes the top point scorer of the tournament.
England will try to outrun Fiji in the semifinals as they have pace out wide in the form of Dam Norton.
Former Wallaby and Fiji’s most successful coach Ilivasi Tabua said Fiji should play a direct game a against England.
Meanwhile Dan Norton was the savior for England after he raced for a 103 meter try when they were trailing by 14-12 with 40 seconds to go.
England beat Australia 19-14, Samoa lost to South Africa 27-14 while New Zealand hammered Wales 31-7.
England will face Fiji at 7:49pm in the first Cup semifinal while New Zealand will tackle South Africa at 8:11pm.
The Cup final will be at 11pm
