Fiji has reaffirmed its strong commitment to democratic values, inclusivity and regional cooperation at the 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, held under the theme “The Commonwealth - A Global Partner.”

Delivering his address at the conference, Speaker Filimone Jitoko emphasised Fiji’s continued efforts to strengthen parliamentary democracy through efficiency, effectiveness and inclusivity.

He says that in the area of gender equality and women’s leadership, the Parliament, through the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Fiji Group, continues to champion women’s political participation.

Jitoko highlighted the 2024 Women’s Mock Parliament and a commemorative booklet designed to inspire the next generation of women leaders.

The Speaker also noted that the Fiji Youth Parliament recently brought together 57 young leaders from across the country to debate national issues.

He adds that the event placed a strong emphasis on inclusion, with participation from youth with disabilities.
