Fiji ready for final stages

Fiji ready for final stages
After humbling the All Blacks 7s 24-12 in their last pool game early this morning, our Digicel Fiji 7s team is all set for the quarter finals.

Speaking from South Africa, team manager Semi Rogoyawa said the players wanted to make amends after their 21-19 loss to Scotland even after starting well against England 29-19 in the first game last night.

Rogoyawa said there is no injury worry in the team.

Rogoyawa added they are awaiting the result of an alleged foul play by a New Zealand player from the games sighting commissioner.

Fiji will meet Argentina at 12:45am tomorrow in the quarterfinal.

Fiji made a stunning come back to outclass the All Blacks 7s in a classical victory with hard hitting tackles and a glimpse of flair and flamboyance.

Fiji scored four tries through Ilai Tinai, Lepani Botia, Inia Tukere and John Stewart.

Meanwhile, South Africa won all their matches after they ended an impressive 17-7 victory against Australia this morning.

South Africa beat France 12-5, while their first match was a repeat of last year's Cup semi final where they were able to record a 29-7 victory against Dubai 7s champions Samoa.

Argentina and Wales reached the Cup quarter finals from Pool C in yet another enthralling contest. Wales headed into their final match with Kenya knowing a win was required, and ensured their place in the last eight with a 33-12 victory over Kenya.

Wales beat Spain 12-5 in their first pool match, however they were pinned back in their second clash of the day when Argentina came from behind to beat them 12-7 in a tense clash.

Portugal entered the Cup stage for a second successive HSBC Sevens World Series tournament after winning all three of their games on the opening day in Port Elizabeth.

The Portugese got their campaign off to a solid start beating USA 26-12 before narrowly beating Zimbabwe 17-12 and ended the day with a resounding 28-7 win over Canada, confirming their place in the Cup.

USA won their second match against Zimbabwe 21-17 and will join Portugal in the Cup.

Meanwhile in the quarter finals South Africa takes on USA at 11.39pm, followed by Wales and New Zealand at 12:01am tomorrow then Portugal will take on France in the third quarterfinal at 12:23am.
