Fiji loses plate semi to NZ

It was a disappointing end to the Digicel Fiji sevens campaign as they lost to New Zealand 24-21 in the plate semifinal.

The Digicel Fiji 7s team bowed out of the Cup semifinals at the Australia 7s after they lost to hosts Australia by 26-21 in the cup quarterfinal.

The Fiji side made a number of errors and gave possession way to Australia who capitalized on the mistakes to deny Fiji a place in the cup semifinals.

Argentina, USA, Australia and Samoa are through in four thrilling Cup quarterfinals.

Zach Pangelinan crossed in the final seconds to win the match for USA, defending champions South Africa lost out at the death to Argentina, James Stannard’s two late tries put Australia through against Fiji, Timoteo Iosua’s extra time try gave Samoa a fourth successive win against New Zealand, 24 19.

The outstanding personal contribution has so far come from Samoa’s Mikaele Pesamino, who scored against New Zealand in their Cup quarter and leads the way in the ‘tries scored’ column with nine, including five in one game.
