The Digicel Fiji Sevens team will take the game to the Samoan’s in the second semifinal of the New Zealand Sevens this evening after beating South Africa 21-5 in the quarterfinal.
While there were doubts on whether the Etuate Waqa coached side can stop South Africa in the quarterfinals after they lost to Tonga in the pool game yesterday, Fiji proved to be a different team today possessed with a lot of guts in them to be in the semifinal.
Waqa said that he told the players before they left their hotel today that they have played in this wet condition before and they know what is to be done to win the game against South Africa.
Playing Samoa in the semifinal is not new to Fiji and Waqa has already mapped out a game plan that could see his players reach the final tonight.
In the quarterfinal, Fiji scored through, Nemani Nagusa, Osea Kolinisa and Emosi Vucago for the 21-5 win.
In other results, New Zealand beat France 22-7, England thumped Tonga 26-7 and Samoa in sudden death through a penalty from Lolo Lui beat Canada 15-12.
New Zealand will take on England in the first semifinal at 5.35pm before Fiji meet Samoa at 6pm.
The NZ Sevens final is schedule for 8.30pm.
