Fiji Sports Commission submits request of $2M for Commonwealth Games prep

The Fiji National Sports Commission has submitted a request of $2 million to the Ministry of Economy for the next budget year for Fiji’s preparation towards the Commonwealth Games.

This has been confirmed by the Chairman of the Fiji National Sports Commission Peter Mazey.

Mazey says this funding will go to FASANOC.

He says they have also made a request for the Rugby World Cup 7s.

Mazey highlights that the Commonwealth Games lies between the World Sevens Series, and the 7s team will go for the Commonwealth Games straight after playing in Hong Kong.

After the Commonwealth Games, they will head to the Singapore 7s.

Meanwhile CEO of the Fiji Rugby Union, John O’Connor says they have also submitted their request for next year’s budget as it is a huge year for 7s.

O’Connor says they are talking to the sponsors and preparation is going well.

He says they have also had talks with World Rugby.

The Commonwealth Games will be held in Gold Coast in April next year while the World Cup 7s will be held in San Francisco in July next year.
