The Fiji Museum is marking a significant milestone today, celebrating its 70th anniversary at its iconic Thurston Gardens location in Suva.
While speaking to fijivillage News, Manager Archaeology, Mereoni Camailakeba says the celebration coincides with International Museum Day emphasising the evolving role of museums in dynamic societies.
Camailakeba says the Fiji Museum over the decades, has become a custodian of Fiji’s rich cultural heritage, housing hundreds of artifacts, including archaeological materials.
She says the museum’s collection offers insights into the diverse communities that have shaped Fiji over the past two centuries.
The 39-year-old adds that the Fiji Museum’s 70th-anniversary celebration, not only honours its historical journey but also reinforces its commitment to adapting and contributing to Fiji’s rapidly changing communities.
