Fiji Men’s 7s team urged not to play individually but as a team - Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu

The victory is yours but you need to work together because there are 7 of you on the field and a few on the bench, and I urge you not to play individually but as a team.

This was highlighted by the Speaker of the Parliament of Fiji, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu during the jersey presentation early this morning ahead of the Dubai 7s that begins tomorrow.

Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu shared some words of encouragement to the team and said that Fijians all over the world are watching and cheering for the Fiji 7s team, but sometimes when they are unfit, they tend to throw punches and play the typical Fijian up and under style of rugby.

He says they need to excel, but they don’t think about themselves and think of the support around them because, at the end of the day, everybody counts.

The Tui Cakau also thanked coach Ben Gollings and the management team for devoting their time and energy to upskilling the boys and wishing them all the best this weekend.

The Men’s team will be out to prove a point at the Dubai 7s after failing to win any tournament last year and will try to kick start this season on a high note.

The Fiji Airways National 7s team will take on USA at 6.06pm and France at 9.52pm tomorrow, before playing Great Britain at 4am Sunday in their final pool match.

The cup quarter finals will begin at 6.58pm Sunday, the cup semi finals will kick off at 10.04pm Sunday and the final will be at 3.53am Monday.

Meanwhile, the Women’s team will take on Great Britain at 5.44pm and then play South Africa at 8.43pm tomorrow in their second pool match before taking on New Zealand at 1.35am Sunday.

The Women’s Cup quarter finals will kick off at 5.30pm Sunday, the semi finals will be at 9.20pm Sunday and the final will be at 3.13am Monday.
