Fiji Govt gives $1.3m for hosting of Commonwealth Weightlifting

The Fiji Government has given $1.3 million to host the Commonwealth Weightlifting Competition.

While officiating at the 2024 Commonwealth Weightlifting Competition, Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports, Meli Nacuva says this event wouldn't have been possible without the government's financial support.

Nacuva says it is through this support that Fiji can host such a world-class event and provide a stage for athletes to compete at the highest level.

Leading weightlifting countries such as India, England, Malaysia, Singapore, Wales, Canada, and Sri Lanka are participating in the competition.

The Commonwealth Weightlifting competition started today with 210 participants and 25 countries participating during a week of competition held in Suva.

President of Weightlifting Fiji, Della Shaw Elder also acknowledged the government's support.
