Fiji Airways continues to monitor situation in Israel as no confirmation on return chartered flight

Fiji Airways continues to monitor situation in Israel as no confirmation on return chartered flight

As no confirmation has been given on when the Fiji Airways return chartered flight service via Hong Kong to Tel Aviv will be air bound, Fiji Airways says they are continuing to assess the serious security situation in Israel and is taking advice from Israeli authorities.

More than 300 Fijians and members of the Fijian diaspora are in Jerusalem to attend the Feast of Tabernacles 2023 that concluded in the weekend.

The airline says their scheduled return charter service for tomorrow is still being reviewed and will be dependant on the advice of security authorities in Israel.

They say they will continue to monitor the state of affairs in Israel and respond to the changing security situation.

The airline adds the safety and security of their staff and guests remains paramount.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says the Government is in direct contact with the Fijians in Israel and can confirm that they are safe and accounted for despite the circumstances surrounding them.

He has also expressed his condolences and says Fiji is deeply saddened by the loss of lives and the suffering endured by both Israelis and Palestinians as a result of the ongoing conflict.

He says the nation’s thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected during this challenging time.

BBC reports Israel was taken by surprise by the most ambitious operation Hamas has ever launched from Gaza.

Hamas breached the wire that separates Gaza from Israel in multiple places in the most serious cross-border attack Israel has faced in more than a generation.
