The Vodafone Fiji 7s team has won their first game at the Wellington 7s defeating Australia 26-12 this morning.

It was not a walk in the park for our players as well as coach Gareth Baber as they Fiji was trailing 5-12 at half time.

Australia scored first in the first minute with a try from young Henry Hutchison giving them a 7-0 lead.

Fiji scored next as Joeli Lutumailagi received an offload from playmaker Jerry Tuwai.

The conversion was missed as Australia led 7-5.

In the 5th minute, Australia’s Alex Gibbon scored their second try as giving them the lead at 12-5 at half time.

At half time, Baber’s message was clear as he pointed out some key areas especially in defence.

Fiji started the second half strongly with veteran Lutumailagi breaking through the defence to score his second to level the score at 12-all.

The remaining 3 minutes was all Fiji as they scored two more tries through captain Osea Kolinisau and replacement Alivereti Veitokani.
