Fiji & fellow Pacific Island Countries have united as nations of peace-loving people to condemn the conflict in Ukraine - Bainimarama

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has tweeted that Fiji and its fellow Pacific Island Countries have united as nations of peace-loving people to condemn the conflict in Ukraine.

Bainimarama says the United Nations has spoken clearly and has called for the suffering to end and return to the path of diplomacy as it is the only road that leads to peace.

Russia’s advance on Ukrainian cities has intensified as war enters second week, displacing hundreds of thousands of people.

Aljazeera has reported that the UN General Assembly has also demanded Russia to stop its offensive in Ukraine as 141 countries voted in support of the United Nations General Assembly’s resolution to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The vote was 141 to 5, with 35 abstentions.

UN says 227 civilians have been killed and 525 wounded in Ukraine.

It has also confirmed that more than 870,000 people have fled.

Russia says its troops have taken Kherson, as it continues to bombard Kyiv and Kharkiv.
