Feroz Gulam Mohammed released after being questioned by police

Former National Federation Party proposed candidate Feroz Gulam Mohammed has been released from police custody after being questioned at the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters.

He was taken in for questioning on Friday.

Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro has confirmed that this is in regards to his social media posts and alleged seditious comments.

She says investigations are continuing.

Mohammed’s Facebook account allegedly had a post in September last year which said that that was the best time for a military coup.

Under the Crimes Act, a seditious intention is an intention to bring into hatred or contempt or to excite disaffection against the government of the Republic of Fiji.

A person commits an indictable offence if the person prints, publishes, sells, offers for sale, distributes or reproduces any seditious publication.
