The family of 15-year-old Joseph Michael Kata, who tragically died in a suspected boating accident near Nasali Landing, Rewa, on 30th August, is still seeking answers from Police.

His mother, Sulueti Kata, who works at a nearby shop, says her son left home at around 9:35pm and never returned.

Joseph had been ferrying passengers to Nabua Village, a task he often carried out to support his family.

Kata says that just minutes later, she overheard water taxi operators discussing an accident involving her son.

She adds that her son’s boat had reportedly crashed, and both Joseph and the engine were missing.

She says a search was launched, with Nabua Village headman Ben Karikaritu helping to locate the boy using a fishing net.

After about an hour, Joseph’s body was recovered with a visible head wound.

He was laid to rest on Friday 4th September.

Kata was at the police station today to ask for more information on her son’s case.

Police confirm that investigations are continuing to determine the cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the accident.
