The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre is losing some of its well-trained new staff to overseas schemes such as study and work.

Coordinator Shamima Ali says their counsellors are thoroughly trained and in demand.

Ali says there needs to be some negotiations with the government as this is not only in the counselling field but in other fields as well.

The FWCC currently has about 35 counsellors and Ali says they are advertising for counsellors vigorously.

Meanwhile, there were 6,768 reported domestic violence cases last year.

This is according to data from the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre.

Their data shows there were 63 cases of rape and 14 attempted rape cases.

There were 214 child rape cases and 155 child sexual abuse cases.
