FTUC calls for 110% pay rise
The Fiji Trades Union Congress is calling for a 110% pay increase for all the civil servants.

President Daniel Urai said this is one of the things they would like to see announced in the 2014 National Budget on Friday.

Fiji Public Service Association General Secretary Rajeshwar Singh also wants a pay rise for the civil servants.

A log of claims was sent to the Permanent Secretary for the Public Service Commission Parmesh Chand which is signed by Rajeshwar Singh, Fijian Teachers Association General Secretary Maika Namudu and Fiji Teachers Union General Secretary Agni Deo Singh requesting for a 110% pay rise.

This year all established civil servants with an annual salary below $10,000 received an increase to go to the $10,000 level while unestablished workers or government wage earners received a 10% pay rise.

This benefitted 4,541 government employees.

The pay increments came into effect from January 1st this year.

Meanwhile, there was a 3% pay increase across the whole of government from 1st January last year.

All nurses and doctors also received an additional 3% pay increase which means that they received a 6% increase in total in 2012.

Police officers also received a 9% pay rise last year.
