FSC expecting to produce 175,000 tonnes of sugar by year end
The Fiji Sugar Corporation is expecting to produce 175 thousand tonnes of sugar by crushing 1.65 million tonnes of sugarcane by the end of this year.

FSC Executive Chairman Abdul Khan said with the crushing season almost over, this is a good sign as they are crushing less cane and producing more sugar compared to previous years.

Khan said they are hoping to hit just over 2 million tonnes of sugarcane and if they do that FSC should see between 200 to 230,000 tonnes of sugar for next season.

He said they have also seen an increase in the number of sugarcane planted by the farmers after more husbandry measures have been undertaken.

Khan added that the budget allocation of $15 million for this year has been used for the upgrading of cane excess road, part of the subsidy for fertilizer for the farmers and for new equipments.

Meanwhile the budget announcement for 2014 will be made this Friday.
